Q & A

What is an operating levy?

An operating levy is one that generates funds that may be used for the general operations of the district. That includes utilities, building operations, wages and benefits.

How much is a mill?

Taxes are computed in mills and a mill is 1/10 of a penny.  A mill produces $1 in tax for every $1,000 of property value. Remember this levy is not a new tax. There will be no additional costs to taxpayers.

How much money will the combination levy generate?

The 7.68 mill levy is estimated to generate $2,270,000 that will help support general operations, supplies, building operations, utilities and staffing.

Where does the district receive its funding?

The district receives funding from state, local and federal sources.  Local sources amount to 16 percent, state sources are 79 percent and 5 percent comes from federal sources.

Why is the General Fund so important?

The General Fund is the operating fund for the district.  Expenses that come from the General Fund include salaries, benefits, supplies, equipment, utilities, professional development and maintenance.

What will happen if this renewal levy does not pass?

The district will lose critical general operating funds that are crucial to continue to provide the best facilities, resources, staff and education for our students.

How much does the district spend on staff?

The Ohio Department of Education recommends that school districts spend around 80 percent of their operating budgets on wages and benefits. Currently, the District spends 63 percent ($1.29 million) of the operating budget on wages and benefits. The other 37 percent ($432,000) is spent on the general operations of the district.
